How to Play Roulette

The modern roulette spins with 37 slots in Europe (numbered 0-36) and 38 in the United States (an additional 00 is present). This gives the house a decisive edge in American wheels, though when using a European wheel the game actually has some of the better odds in a casino. If youre not familiar with how to play roulette, this article will introduce you to the basic nature of the game. There are wide arrays of bets that can be placed, though many are only known and used by experienced players. Knowing the simple bets, though, will allow you to play the game well and still have fun. The object of the game is to predict where the ball will land.
In order to play the game, you need to buy in and receive special roulette chips. Each player gets a different colored chip so that there is no confusion on the board when bets are placed. Take note of the minimum and maximum bets at the table you choose, as these can be different depending where you play. After you get your chips, you make a bet, which come in two forms: inside and outside.
Inside bets are made on the numbers themselves on the board. The easiest bets to remember is the straight up bet and the split bet. The first of these pays out 35 to 1, and you put all your chips on the number you want to bet on. A split bet pays out 17 to 1, and chips are placed to cover two numbers you want to bet on. Other inside bets involve betting on all three numbers in one row, or even six numbers on two rows set up next to each other. The more numbers you bet on, though, the less of a payout youll get if you win.
Outside bets are played on the green boxes surrounding the numbers on the table. These have the highest chances of winning, as outside bets often involve 12 numbers, but they also only pay out 2 to 1 odds I most cases. Once you get a hang of these simple bets, youll really be able to get started playing a fun, exciting game of chance on your next trip to the casino.
En Prison Rule
The special rule of En Prison only applies to some casinos and on a European wheel. The En Prison roulette rule lets any players who have made a bet of even odds (1:1) keep half of their money or gamble it again on the same bet if the ball lands in the zero pocket.
