American Roulette
Roulette is one of the best games to play in a casino and there is more than one version. The American Roulette game is different to European roulette because of amount of pockets on the actual wheel its self, When you play American roulette you will notice that the wheel contain two zero slots while the European wheel only has the one zero slot. Both roulette wheels have pockets numbered 1 to 36 on them and the basics of the game are the same. In total the American wheel contains 38 pockets while the Euro wheel only has 37. No-matter which version of the wheel you play on the betting odds are always fixed in roulette, for example if a player makes a bet on a single number the payout is 35 to 1.
Roulette is originally a European game and when it travelled to America in the early 1800s the game was already very popular, casino managers then added an extra zero to the wheel so that the casino had a slightly better edge or advantage. This was the birth of the American roulette wheel.
The House Edge.
Because there are two zero slots on the American roulette wheel plus the 36 numbers there is a 1/38 chance of any number coming up while the casino only pays 35 to 1 for a single number. This gives the house an advantage of 5.26% on an American roulette table. The European wheel only gives the casino a 2.7% edge while still paying the same odds. The house also has the edge on all of the other bets such as high or low, red or black, columns and rows etc which do not cover the zero slots.
The Wheel Layout.
On the American wheel the zero slots are opposite each other splitting the wheel in half, the zero slots are numbered Zero (0) and double zero (00) and they are normally green. All the other numbers are alternating in red and black pockets
